Blending...like a boss.

If you're like me, you end up with about 12 almost empty bottles of essential oil. Instead of just letting the bottles take up space in your box, try making a master blend to enjoy in your favorite essential oil diffuser. Today, I used up my left over drops & invented three real beauties.

First, you need to clean out a few old essential oil bottles. To get started, pry out the orifice reducer with your fingernails or with a butter knife. Wash everything by hand or in the dishwasher. Once dry, add 30 drops of this, 45 drops of that. I like to take notes of how much I use so I can repeat my blends later.

180-ish drops of essential oil will fill a 15ml bottle. About 80 - 90 drops will fill a 5ml bottle. When you've finished mixing, put your reducer back in, cap, shake, a few drops to your diffuser, enjoy!

These home made blends smell like the holidays! Holiday Herbs features frankincense, lemon, clove, cassia, a dash of eucalyptus & rosemary. Cinnamon Spice is a blend of cinnamon, grapefruit, lemon, clove, wild orange, a dash of eucalyptus and a base of frankincense. I made my Christmas potpourri blend with all of the above oils, but with a dash of cypress and white fir to smell like Christmas trees.

Just have to say, because I'm that lady: keep any blend you make with cinnamon bark, cassia, clove, frankincense, eucalyptus (any species), rosemary, peppermint, etc., out of the reach of children. These essential oils can cause considerable discomfort if not used as recommended from the company you purchase them from.) Don't let your kids give themselves a facial in the diffuser steam either. If you get any essential oils in your eyes, rinse with a carrier oil (olive, canola, fractionated coconut oil) for about 20 minutes, then wash with soap. (And of course, consult a your physician if you need.)

When you make your own blend, be sure to use a pure therapeutic grade in order to avoid synthetic chemicals. Remember, 6-12 drops of a master blend goes a long way in 4 oz water based diffuser. Master blends like this will work in any essential oil diffusion machine that is made of HDPE plastic (a hard plastic resistant to the solvent effects of the natural organic chemical constituents of essential oils, such as limonene in lemon essential oil.)

Master blends are a great way to consolidate and enjoy your favorite essential oils in a new aromatic way. Happy Blending!
